NFER® Technology

NFER® technology is a radically new form of wireless tracking that brings real-time locating systems (RTLS) to difficult indoor environments. Operating at low power levels (FCC Part 15) in the AM broadcast band, NFER® technology offers significant advantages. By exploiting near-field properties of electric and magnetic waves, this breakthrough technology provides a unique combination of long range, high accuracy, and low cost.

Long Range: NFER® systems’ low frequencies propagate better than the high frequencies used by incumbent systems. Low frequencies diffract around or penetrate through even large obstacles that would block high frequency signals. Typical ranges exceed 30m (100ft) even in complicated propagation environments, and are 70m (230ft) or further in friendly environments.

High Accuracy: Low frequencies are less prone to multipath, yielding more robust and accurate positioning in complicated indoor environments. Typical accuracy is better than 1m (3ft) with potential for 30cm (1ft).

Low Cost: Low frequency hardware is inherently simpler and less expensive than comparable high frequency hardware. The wireless enabled QTTM-400 Locators require no expensive cabling or installation. Finally, long range means significantly less infrastructure.
