About Q-Track
Hans Schantz and Bob DePierre invented near-field electromagnetic ranging (NFER®) technology in 2002. NFER® technology was reduced to practice in Bob's garage and first demonstrated in Bob's driveway in August 2002 using software created by Q-Track co-founder David Langford. Hans and Bob joined with Jerry Gabig to incorporate Q-Track in October 2002. David Langford joined Q-Track full-time in January 2007.
Q-Track's development of NFER® technology was supported largely out of the principals' pockets, along with a handful of angel investors and contracts from the Department of Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency (HSARPA), the US Army, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the National Instititue of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and the National Science Foundation (NSF). In 2005, the US Patent and Trademark Office awarded Q-Track US patent 6,963,301 for NFER® technology. Q-Track received US Patents 7,298,314 and 7,307,595 in 2007 for significant improvements in NFER® technology. Q-Track has seven other US patents pending.
Q-Track is located in Huntsville, Alabama, selected as one of the top ten U.S. cities for business by Forbes magazine. Q-Track’s facilities are in a large complex owned by Huntsville’s Business Technology Development Center (BizTech).
